ABOUT THE TEAM

1991

The Tri-Check post collegiate women's lacrosse team was founded by Dana Crompton in the fall of 1991 after her return to California from graduate school at the U of Minnesota, where she had started their first women's lacrosse team.  With a love for the game and a need to play, Dana enlisted her friend as co-founder, Terry Parker, to help build the team.  Terry was a lacrosse player at Cal State Long Beach where she also played field hockey.  Terry helped recruit lacrosse players from the membership of the Los Angeles Field Hockey Association (LAFHA), many of whom also played lacrosse in college.  Tri-Check did not have a home field, it did not run practices, and had no money.  The team just played games with local college club teams, because there were zero high school teams in Southern California (Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Orange County and Inland Empire areas) at that time.

The name "Tri-Check" came from Terry's ability to check so hard that the ball would be dislodged within three strikes!  With wooden sticks, that was a big deal back then!

1992

Game schedule included Claremont College Club (only one team at the time) , University of California San Diego, Whittier (where Dana coached),  University of Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara "Uvas" (Post Collegiate players in SB area).  Tournaments at the time included Western States, Santa Barbara Shootout and Vail.

1993

Tri-Check was asked to combined with SB Uvas to become Tri-Check Uvas (T-C U).  Continued with this name for the next decade.  Same schedules and tournaments.  New Club teams joined as girls and women's lacrosse grew in SoCal.  UCLA, USC, U of Redlands developed club teams.  Their coaches also played on T-C U.

1994-2004

For the next decade, under Dana and Terry's leadership, the Tri-Check Uvas were well known in the area for supporting teaching and coaching lacrosse. The team competed against post collegiate club and high school teams throughout Southern California and at tournaments across California.  Dana and the members of the Tri-Check Uvas were instrumental in the growth and development of girl's and women's lacrosse in the Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Orange County, and Inland Empire areas of Southern California.

Tri-Check Uvas consistently placed in their divisions at the Western States and SB Shootout tournaments.  The trophies have been presented to the current leadership of the Tri-Check team.  The Tri-Check Uvas players were the foundation of teams that traveled to the US Lacrosse National Tournament (adult/collegiate division) representing S. California for several years.  Since transitioning the team to new leadership, countless tournaments (near and far) have hosted the Tri-Check Uvas team.  Their legacy will continue under new leadership and name, but their history will not be forgotten.

In 2004, Dana retired from playing lacrosse to focus on officiating the high school and college levels of girl's/women's lacrosse and passed the Tri-Check Uvas team on to the next generation of women's lacrosse players and leaders.

In 2004, Jessica Bromall Sparkman took control of the team.
